We launched the Virtual Farmers Market to meet the community's need for access to fresh food and our farmers' need for economic support during the current COVID-19 crisis. ​

We remain committed to food justice and the health and well-being of our community. As such, we are offering financial assistance to make the Virtual Farmers Market affordable to all. And we deliver food to all of Berkshire County to help keep our community safe during this pandemic.

We are working every day to increase the scale of our Virtual Farmers Market and serve more of our community. We have a small team and we regret that we can not fully meet the immense need for access to fresh, local food. We are happy to connect shoppers with other opportunities to buy food from their local farmers.

Who is this Virtual Farmers Market for? 


  • This market is for the entire Berkshire community. We provide extra support for those who are low-income or at high risk for the virus. Please see below for more information. 


Can I order online using my SNAP card?


  • The answer is not yet. Massachusetts recently implemented a SNAP Online Purchasing Program. Right now only Walmart and Amazon are able to process SNAP sales online. The USDA has extensive requirements for any retailer who wants to join this program. We have applied and are waiting to hear if our application has been approved. 


Can I make an order using my SNAP card in person? 


  • Due to the social distancing protocols necessary during the pandemic, we will not be able to process any in-person orders. This decision was made to protect the safety of our staff, volunteers and shoppers.


What financial assistance are you offering instead of matching my SNAP funds (aka "Market Match")?


  • While we continue to work towards processing SNAP sales online, we will also be offering a $30 discount to 100 shoppers per week who are either SNAP recipients OR suffering from economic hardship due to the pandemic. 


How can I access this discount?


  • We are using a lottery system each week to fairly give access to this discount. You can read more about our financial assistance process and enter the weekly lottery here


Can I use my Healthy Incentive Program (HIP) funds at the Virtual Farmers Market? 


  • You cannot use your HIP funds during our standard weekly Virtual Farmers Market, but you can during our twice a month Benefits Day! You will also be able to use your WIC and Senior FMNP coupons on Benefits Day.

    • We are proud to offer a 50% discount on all Benefits Day boxes! This means that even though these boxes have a $20 value, you pay just $10 in benefits and we add in $10 worth of farm-fresh food for FREE.

How will I get the food that I ordered? 


  • The Virtual Farmers Market offers both delivery and curbside pickup! ​See below for more details.


Where do you deliver to? 

We deliver to Pittsfield, Dalton, Lenox, Lanesborough, and Richmond. We work with community volunteers to drop off your order. If you are ordering frozen food or other items that you'd like to keep cool, please leave a cooler outside your door. 

***If you live in an apartment, please be accessible by phone between 11:30am and 2:30pm! Our delivery drivers will be calling you to make sure that your order gets to the right place!***

How much does the delivery cost? 


  • Delivery is FREE for the following individuals:

    • SNAP recipients

    • Those who have lost their jobs or are suffering economic hardship due to the pandemic

    • Seniors

    • Others who are at high risk for this virus due to health conditions

  • Delivery for all other community members is $5. This will help us cover the costs of running this service.

  • Please choose the appropriate delivery option upon checkout. We are using the honor system and appreciate your honesty!

How does curbside pickup work?

  • Curbside pickup is for all shoppers outside of our delivery range as well as any shoppers within that range who would like to pickup their order. Curbside pickup reduces our reliance on delivery volunteers- we encourage all shoppers to pick up their order if possible!

  • When: Saturdays from 11:15am-12:00pm.

  • Where: At our Distribution Center at 34 Laurel Street in Pittsfield.

    • Laurel Street is the other side of the road from Plastics Ave and General Dynamics. Just drive to the end of Laurel Street and you will see a large warehouse and parking lot. That's where we'll be!

  • How: 

    • You will be directed to the curbside pickup area when you arrive. 

    • Please stay in your car. When we are ready to serve you, please roll down your window and tell us your name. Our volunteers will retrieve your order and place it in your car for you. 

  • Important notes:

    • Masks are required for curbside pickup.

      • You will need to have your mask on when your window is rolled down and you are communicating with our staff and volunteers.

    • We do not have the staff capacity to stay past noon, nor do we have refrigeration units where we can store your order. Any order that is not picked up by noon will be donated to a local food pantry, and no refund will be available.

    • We are unable to accommodate changes to your shipping choice once an order has been processed. Please make the selection between curbside pickup or delivery carefully!

How do I know that my order has been successfully placed? 

  • You will receive an emailed receipt if your order has gone through. If you did not receive an emailed receipt, then your order has NOT been processed. Please go back and make sure your checkout is complete. If you still cannot place your order, please email our Program Coordinator at grace@rootsrising.org.

What safety protocols are you implementing? 


  • All participating vendors will need to comply with the MDAR's COVID-19 guidelines for farmers in order to participate. In addition, we will be working with a very small team to package the orders, and this team will be complying with all of the CDC's recommendations for hygiene and social distancing. Our delivery service will be strictly no-contact: all orders will be dropped on your doorstep. There will be nothing to sign or process upon delivery.
